The Goodery Challenge

My Good Deed For The Day.

Growing up, I fondly remember those words coming out of my Dad’s mouth. The most strong yet gentle, and kindhearted man I have ever met. He made it a point, whether big or small, to do something kind for someone else any chance he could. Still to this day he continues to give to friends, neighbors, and even strangers in this generous way—shoveling a sidewalk, sharing snacks with hikers, buying a beer for someone he just met, offering to grab groceries for a friend while he is out. Such a heartwarming example especially in times like these, that WE ALL have the power to create good and spread happiness. My Dad’s acts of kindness are never boastful, in fact it may even bother him that I am sharing this publicly. He never asks for anything in return except that those he helps pay it forward and offer a kind gesture to someone else as well when they are able to. I have been so blessed to have such strong footsteps to follow in.

If each of us took a moment to follow Papa Joe’s lead, and use our actions to lead by example. To show our children the impact that even the most simple act of kindness can make a difference; we have done our job for the day. Those little eyes are watching us. In this pandemic, in a time when we are distancing ourselves both physically and emotionally more than ever; we need to remember that on the other side of that computer, the car next to us, or behind that mask at the grocery store is another human being, craving the same love, kindness, and connection we all do. So here at The Goodery, Melissa and I are going to challenge ourselves to follow my Dad’s lead and be sure we get that one good deed in every day, and we encourage you to join us. Please share with us your good deeds—big, small, and everything in between. We would LOVE to know what you’re up to. And if you find yourself in Red Lodge, MT keep an eye out for Papa Joe and his kindness spreading ways. If you spot him, be sure to give him a hug or a handshake, and tell him his big kid misses him like crazy.

Thanks for inspiring us,

Emily (& Melissa too)
